Douro Tom de Baton Red
If your concern is to sample the astonishing quality of the products
from Douro and avoid excessive spending, the Baton Red should be your
first choice. Produced with the Touriga Nacional variety, considered
by many critics to be Portugal's finest, it is a wine matched for the
hot summer days, deeply colored and fruity. Despite its high
alcoholic strength (14°) its taste of red currant and blackberry
gives a sense of coolness. It has a suitable endurance in the mouth
and it is full-bodied drink. Baton Red should be served at 15°, by
opening the wine and putting it into the fridge for 15 minutes. As
you foresee, in spite of its freshness, this drink backs strong
dishes up, or you will suffer a little bit of “tontura”, a
portuguese word for dizzy spell. Best matched with fat fish and
appetizers like cheese and ham.
