Douro Quinta da Leda Red
Quinta da Leda, produced by the Casa Ferreirinha, arises in
the golden cradle of Barca Velha with the fusion of the “castas
tradicionais” of Douro, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca e Tinta
Roriz. Located to the east of the Douro, this brand is one of jewels
in Ferreira's legacy. Quinta da Leda reinvented itself with wines of
great complexity of aspects:, built in 2001, is exemplary in that it
follows an approach that allows the winemaker direct contact with the
wine. The grapes are received on the uppermost level and gravity is
used to move the grapes, ensuring a far more natural flow, with noted
gains in wine quality.
This noble wine is deep, dark crimson, with dark fruits aroma like
cherry, plum and an herbal note. Plenty of oak spice on the palate,
and a balsamic taste, mixed with a scent of black tea and tobacco.
Smooth but dense tannins well filled out by the fruit. Juicy and
moreish and good length. A sense of dryness is caused by the sociable
tannins presence, an austerity that matches great with elaborate
dishes.
